Dear valued members and former members:
I know it's been a while since you've heard from us, and we would like to apologize for that and take this opportunity to inform you of the current happenings at PLCC. The 2008 season was quite a challenging season for us. The retirement of my father and the loss of our bookkeeper/accountant David Palmeri to cancer left us with considerable amounts of work and expenses on top of the regular operation of the business. We were (and have been) fortunate enough to have several dedicated employees that helped us get through the season. Also, we would like to welcome our new members and thank those of you that took advantage of our holiday special. Those funds were crucial to wrap up the fiscal year. But now that 2008 is behind us, we've been working hard on 2009!
To start with, as of last night's Allied Golf Association's annual meeting, PLCC has been welcomed as an Allied Club Member. We weren't present when the vote took place, but when we re-entered the room there was an excellent round of applause! By the end of the meeting we even managed to schedule 2 tournaments for 2009! Overall the evening was quite a milestone - not only for Pontoosuc and it's members, but for myself and Swanda. What this means to our members is that they will be able to play in all Allied Tournaments, and be able to play at the other 13 member courses on days when Pontoosuc is hosting a tournament. There are considerable other details that we will get into as the season progresses, but for now we will be hosting a Monday Junior Rotation in July and the Allied Mixed Scotch in September!
Moving on, we have been meeting with Bradley Architects and Chris Porter Builders to plan a small kitchen, bar, seating areas and renovations to bring the club house up to date. We hope to have a few sketches in the next couple of days. I will try to convey as much of the plans as possible on our web site (http://plcc.biz/).
Also, I've contacted Mark Mungeam of Mungeam and Cornish Golf Design to discuss modifications and improvements to the course. Some of the issues are the roughs, improvements to the women's tees, the possible addition of bunkers (we do only have 11 and they are mostly on the last 4 holes), the possibilities of what can be done to raise the front left side of the 15th green and maybe even the possible addition of another set of tees.
In our efforts to stay 'green', I'm hoping to have all further communications electronically done on our web page where we can use a forum that will allow members to comment, chat and vote on issues (like which roughs should stay and which should go). Instead of sending bills for 2009, prices will be posted on the web page and also in a flier in the Berkshire Eagle some time in early March, but it is worth mentioning that in order to bring in more juniors, we plan on selling junior memberships for $99 in 2009. The Allied Golf Association also has several junior events that our junior members will have access too.
There are quite a few members in our database that we have incorrect or missing information on and I hope to have it where you can enter your information on line shortly. If you know of other members that haven't received this letter please forward the good news to them!
While all of this is good news, we are going to need help and support from you – our members. There will be several 'volunteer' positions available (e.g. Handicap chairman) and we have several hourly part time positions available as well. Again, these will be posted on the web site and then in the Berkshire Eagle if necessary. There is an immediate opening for a mechanic with good shop skills. If you now of anyone with small engine experience please have them contact Jeff at (413)281-8307. We will also be looking for 2 or 3 part time crew members in April.
We are looking forward to seeing you soon and to a great 2009 season!
-Jeff and Swana Moxon
